Announcement for my candidacy

In a bold move, former Kenyan international soccer player Sammy ‘Kempes’ Owino has officially declared his candidacy for the upcoming FKF (Football Kenya Federation) presidential elections. Speaking on Citizen TV’s Sporty Monday Show, Owino confirmed his bid to succeed the incumbent Nick Mwendwa in the polls scheduled for February 24, 2024. “I am vying for the presidency for sure because I feel I have the experience, the competence, and a proven track record, and I also have a vision for the country that is very much needed,” expressed Owino during the interview. Having spent a significant part of his life after football in the US, Owino outlined his plans to formally launch his bid at a high-profile event scheduled for the following day at the Panari Hotel in Nairobi. “It is always about when do you feel is the right time, and so tomorrow we are having our official launch at the Panari Hotel. I feel this is the right moment, and I’ve spoken to a lot of people about it, people that know about what is going on, and I feel this is the right moment,” revealed Owino confidently. Owino’s decision to enter the race comes amidst concerns from various stakeholders regarding the absence of a clear roadmap for the elections. Some stakeholders have urged Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba to provide a transparent and detailed plan for the upcoming polls. Among the contenders for the FKF presidency are former president Sam Nyamwea, Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohamed, and Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ocholla. Additionally, the race includes former FKF CEO Ludovick Aduda, Murang’a Seal chairman Robert Macharia, former footballer Harold Ndege, and businessman Twaha Mbarak. Notably, the incumbent Nick Mwendwa will not be on the ballot due to reaching the maximum two-term limit. However, there are reports indicating that the current FKF CEO Barry Otieno might receive Mwendwa’s support.
